The truth was that that little Puritans, being of the most intolerant brood that ever lived, had gotten a vague idea of something outlandish, unearthly or at variance with ordinary fashions, in the mother and child, and therefore had taken it upon themselves to torment with their words and actions the unfortunate pair in question. Young Pearl, however, refused with the uttermost passion that was known to be possible for such a girl, to allow these children to harass them and proceeded to take appropriate actions against the cruel words and small stones that they were assaulted with. With such a shrill voice that seemed more fit of a childish imp than a young girl, Pearl would approach the gatherings of children that formed around them and proceeded to cry aloud and chase after those who would scream in response and flee from the devil child born of the sin their young minds were not yet aware of. These outbreaks of a fierce temper had a kind of value, and even comfort to her mother; because there was at least an intelligible earnestness in the mood; instead of the fitful caprice that so often thwarted her in the child's manifestations.

"Mother, why do these children approach us as they do?" Hester had been asked by Pearl one day, a flaming curiosity that could not be satisfied by an undetailed account, specifying the reasoning behind why their trips into the town usually included an assault by these Puritan children, still innocent and ignorant of the world around them.

"Tis only because thou art different my young one and they have yet to understand." Hester attempted her very best at a logical explanation that would satisfy the child, but could not produce a more thorough clarification of the question she had been probed to answer time and again.

And as expected Pearl, her young eyes twinkling with a fire bright and burning with strong curiosity worked to make full sense of this answer and fully accept it. Those bright orbs that held so much light and inquiry suddenly turned to look upon the scarlet letter that would forever rest there upon her mother's bosom to remind all, as an mortal punishment, that she had gravely wronged her community with this dark sin that rested in the form of the beautiful little elf that was her young daughter. The silence that was presented to Hester told her than another explanation was not required and she took the child along with her by her little hand, in attempt to pull those bright, fiery eyes away from the dark emblem that burned brightly on her chest as her sin while scurrying behind her at her mother's side. Mother and daughter stood together in the same circle of seclusion from human society…
I had to write this for school. It was simply using quotes from "The Scarlet Letter" (in bold) and write our own words around it that would fit into the chapter.
